CARNIVAL OF ANIMALS

2021
Mixed Media (Old Computer parts, origami, thread)
Variable Dimensions
Contribution to Yale-NUS College Visual Arts Society 'LEGACY' Exhibition

The same institution focused on STEM subjects; it is very much archaic. The unravelling of our cultures as the public gawks and laughs; the closure of Yale-NUS College is a joke. What do these liberal kids know? Eventually, it bites back, for we are all connected in this entire ecosystem.

Whenever anyone asks me how I felt about the closure of Yale-NUS College, I am unable to give a proper answer; overwhelmed with betrayal, distress, indignation, frustration..., the lists goes on. Even these words are unable to fully capture the abstractness of such anger and exasperation at the lack of transparency and consideration of the NUS administration. Then comes public opinion, with unnecessary and misinformed comments flooding the Facebook comments sections. In the end, I decided I could only express this through art. "Carnival of Animals" is part of the 'LEGACY' exhibition by the YNC Visual Arts Society.

The Kingfisher's Unravelling

Unfinished kingfisher origamis present themselves to the viewer inside the old monitor screen; strung up, impaled and trapped. While the strings pull them apart undoing their folding, the same string spills out of the monitor, entangling the various animals before reaching the one lion at the end.

I would like to thank my friends Elizabeth Ong, Magnus Lim, Sabrina Eng, Kento Numata and Ashley Rehn for helping out with this project, especially with folding the various animals.
