Digital Render

Personal Project

Back when the government imposed a nation-wide lockdown due to Covid-19 in March 2020, Singaporeans started taking up new hobbies to pass the time. Blender essentially became my Covid project or 'pandemic hobby' some might call it. I never had any sort of background in digital art, nor 3D rendering, so I thought it was a perfect opportunity to try something new. Blender is a free 3D rendering software and is widely known for its versatility. Yet, the project flopped spectacularly. Initially, I was trying to follow Andrew Price (https://www.youtube.com/c/BlenderGuruOfficial), AKA Blender Guru's beginner tutorial for the software. However, I could not get past Stage 1 Step 3 because I was so affected by how my donut did not resemble Andrew's work at all.

Nevertheless, after completing my National Service, I decided to revisit the project from scratch because I had so much free time before university starts. Powering through all 23 videos was definitely a challenge but lots of fun! This helped lay the foundation of the software's functionalities for me, from modelling and sculpting to even scene texturing and keyframe animation. I'm definitely excited to see what else I can create with Blender!
